Lets not get confused here. You cannot draw a comparison between mechanical harvesting and the government failing to take action against history's past injustices. The duty falls on the vineyard owners, labour unions and most importantly the end consumers to ensure that they are employing labour friendly practices and if so, they label their bottles as such. Government has far larger problems at the end of the day - rather than having the government pour massive resources into supporting these jobless civilians, the job lossess should be prevented in the first place. How could the local governments possibly restrict farmers from purchasing and using such equipment...impossible. We as the consumers should be the ones taking action by boycotting those wine brands that are not labour friendly. The unions should also use their political clout to put pressure on the government to legally enforce winemakers to label their bottles as such. Lets look for solutions before haphazardly blaming the government prematurely.
