A Global Problem.
Since the creation of The South African Wine Initiative the extent of the problem of Mechanical Harvesters has become more intense. The primary aim of this site is to expose the horror of the social conditions of the Western Cape's Grape-pickers, combined with the killing of an indeterminate number of protected chameleons and other fauna.
However, it seems that this problem exists as a far greater global issue than we previously imagined. Activists in Australia, France and California have contacted us with information concerning the large number of insects, reptiles, animals and bird eggs that are killed through the process of mechanically harvesting grapes.
I urge you to make your friends and family aware of this situation as it is only through increased awareness that the consumer public can end this slaughter.
